About this Special Edition:
AI, Robotics, and Automation present opportunities, as well as risks, for Governments and Non-Profits. As we have seen with for-profit entities, the topics covered in our journal demonstrate the possibility of improved services for citizens and community members, cycle time reductions in tasks and processes, better data quality, and cost savings. Taxpayers, charity aid recipients, and those in need of other forms of non-profit aid (such as education, community engagement, career guidance, and environmental safety) all stand to benefit from the promise of AI, robotics, and automation.
With these opportunities come new challenges. Trust, transparency, and security are essential as governments and non-profits increasingly rely on AI and software automation to interact with sensitive data, systems, and the citizens relying on their services. Governance frameworks, collaboration models, and non-profit delivery strategies are only recently beginning to emerge. The importance of managing societal transitions, public opinion, and workforce skill requirements in the AI-centric Fourth Industrial Revolution must also be carefully considered by government and non-profit leaders.
